Air conditioning removal
We provide fully compliant hazardous waste collections (including white goods & WEEE recycling), and air conditioning removal falls into this category.
We are often asked to remove old air con units during office clearances, for office renovation clients, for hotel renovation clients and more.
90% of the time, old air conditioning units are recycled in our “fridge recycling” waste stream (the gas that is used to remove heat from the air in the units requires similar treatment). Often a de-gassed unit is also required to be treated as hazardous waste, but we have had examples of de-gassed units being treated as non hazardous waste. Either way, the metal is 100% recycled at the end destination.
Why do we clear so many old air con units?
Improved environmental legislation in recent years, means that older air con units are being replaced with newer, more environmentally friendly models. Our fridge recycling service covers removal and safe disposal of any refrigerants: old fridges, old freezers, or old air conditioning units (although they don’t have to be old or broken, they can just be unwanted or in the way!) Many of our Hotel & FM clients Engineering and Facilities Departments ask us to clear old filters from air conditioning units (along with mixed general waste).
With our commercial collection of air con units, we provide Hazardous Waste Consignment Notes. Waste Transfer Notes are essential to provide an audit trail for your waste electrical items. These are checked if you have an environmental audit.
